Getting mental health care

Direct2Care provides access to mental health support through a partnership with BetterHelp, a professional counseling platform. Getting started requires an initial visit with a Direct2Care provider, after which our Clinical Care team will help you get set up.

In crisis? If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing or texting 988.

Step 1 - Request a visit in the app

Tap Get Care and select Mental Health as your care type. You'll go through the standard intake process and be connected with a Direct2Care provider.

Your provider will talk with you about what you're looking for. If they determine that ongoing counseling support is the right fit, they'll connect you with BetterHelp. Continue to Step 2.

Step 2 - Getting connected with BetterHelp

After your visit, Direct2Care's Clinical Care team will call you and send you an email with instructions on how to claim your first BetterHelp session. Make sure your phone notifications are on and check the email address on your account.

Once you receive the instructions:

  1. Create a BetterHelp account if you don't already have one.
  2. Complete BetterHelp's intake questionnaire.
  3. You'll be matched with a licensed counselor and receive a link to schedule your first session by email.

Booking additional sessions

Each BetterHelp session counts as a visit on your Direct2Care plan. To request an additional session, email the Direct2Care Clinical Care team directly using the contact address included in your BetterHelp onboarding email. You don't need to go through the app.

The Clinical Care team will verify your remaining visits and issue your next session credit.

What to expect from BetterHelp

BetterHelp connects you with a licensed therapist or counselor matched to your needs. Sessions take place online, by video, phone, or messaging, on a schedule that works for you.

BetterHelp is an independent platform. Direct2Care facilitates access and session credits, but your ongoing relationship with your counselor is managed through BetterHelp directly.
